What I Made in January 2023

Happy February! Was January 45 days long to you? Just me? Well, anyway, regardless of how long or short it felt to you, I was able to complete 4 projects during this first month of 2023. You might remember that I had 5 projects planned, but I'll get to that. First, I completed this lovely little bookmark. It was fast to make, taking a few hours. The hardest part was trying to figure out how to hold the yarn, since it was so small. I have been able to use it in a few books so far this year as well. Second, I made this car trash bag. While my car is still a mess, it does look cute in there! This was a bit of a pain to make, simply because it took forever to work up. Also, I had used old yarn, which didn't slide very easily. This took around 5 hours or so. It was a conversation starter at my daughter's martial arts practice! Third, I made a water bottle holder. Have I used it? No. But my daughter did use it with her dolls the other day. (haha) It fits my water bottles, I just ...

February 2023 Crochet Challenge Prompts

Can you believe that January is already halfway over?! It seems like a good time to announce the prompts for the February challenge, just in case you need to get more yarn before the end of the month. Now, I honestly don't know if I am going to finish the January prompts on time, but I'm still looking forward to other projects that I get to accomplish, hopefully in February!  Here is the weekly break down: Jan 29 - Feb 4: Pick a Yarn, Pick a Pattern! For this week, you are going to do just that. Pick any yarn that you want, then pick a pattern. It can be whatever you want it to be.   Feb 5 -11: A valentines day gift for someone This can be a gift for a friend, family member, spouse or for yourself! You can make a practical gift or just whatever you think a good gift would be. You could even make a gift for your house, like a decoration!  Feb 12-18: An Apron So, I picked this one because I need a new apron, and I found a pattern that I love while scrolling. You can ma...

Gauge, and the sweater that is utterly failing

Just wait until you see the sweater....yikes. But first... GAUGE. Let's talk about gauge.   I did not know what it was until a few days ago, when I excitedly started to crochet a sweater for my son. I had my yarn and my hook all ready to go, when the pattern says "Make a gauge". What? Gauge? Is that a part of a sweater? After a few moments of trying to figure out why I needed some random square for my sweater project, I found myself on YouTube trying to figure this thing out, which I think I did after multiple videos of "how to make a gauge" (uh, it's a square - those videos weren't helpful.)  So here is a picture of the gauge for this sweater.  It took about 30% of this project for me to figure out  why the gauge was important, and by some happy chance, I actually used mine correctly. However, I still measured the sweater (or at least what I have of it at this point) against my child and it still looks too big, but at least it's not too small!  A ga...
