Hi!
Welcome to the first prompts for the 2023 crochet challenge! They might seem a little random, but I'll explain my reasoning for each one. I also have a Pinterest page and board for each of these prompts if you need some inspiration. I am getting most of my patterns from there as well, and I'll let you know which ones I end up using.
Week 1: A Bookmark
Whenever I read, I have to look for a random marker to use, be it a piece of paper, business card or even something from my kids that should be trash (i.e. old fruit snack bag. Once. It was once.) Therefore, I need an actual book mark.
Week 2: Car Trash Bag
I have kids. They ride in my car. Need I say more?
Week 3: Water bottle holder
I'm hoping this will inspire me to actually carry water with me. I know I don't drink enough water, so maybe if it's in a cute crocheted carrier, then I will! I also have to carry a purse, diaper bag and usually a child and extra child things, so if I can just hang the water over my should, then surely I will use it...I'll let you know if this works.
Week 4: A new stitch to you (or one you don't use often)
So, all of the other prompts could definitely fulfill this one as well. However, I am going to make a pointed effort to make something with a new stitch. I'm thinking that I will make a washcloth or hand towel so that I can get it done in a week. That way, I can focus on the stitch, and not having to make a giant blanket. You are welcome to count one of the other projects as this week's project as well. This project is not meant to stress you out or be overwhelming. Do what you need to do!
Week 5: Make something for someone you love (Valentine's Day is coming!)
So, this week goes into February, so I'll get more into this during the February prompts. I wanted you to have it, for that complete January feel. I'm not sure what I'm making for this yet (or for whom), so stay tuned!
The January Big Project: Whatever you want! For big projects, you can make whatever your heart desires. I will share with you what I am attempting to do, and you are welcome to do the same. For this month's big project, I will be attempting to make a sweater for my son. He's a toddler, so it will be a toddler's size sweater. I think I can do that in a month. I hope. I'll be making him one size larger than he wears so maybe we can get two seasons out of it. However, knowing him, we probably won't get two Sundays out of it, but one can dream.
I'm also working on a video format for this, so once I figure out how to edit, you can watch instead of reading a post, if blogs aren't your thing.
If you choose to join us, please share using the #2023crochetchallenge on Instagram. You can follow our page there, too!
